Football:

Leicester City with new manager Ruud van Nistelrooy watching on went down 4-1 at Brentford making it five games without a league win. This was after the foxes had taken the lead on 21 minutes.

Peterborough United are through to the 3rd Round of the FA Cup in a close fought game against Notts County, 4-3 with the visitors leading 2-1 at half time. A Ricky Jade Jones brace, Joel Randall and Abraham Odoh the men on target.

A Jack Duffy hat-trick saw the Daniels back to winning ways in the league with a 3-1 win over the visitors Royston Town.

In the Premier Division of the Peterborough and District League 2nd placed Uppingham Town played out the same score as in August 1-1 against Deeping Rangers Reserves, Josh Butler had given them the lead whilst Oakham United went down 1-0 at home to Ramsey Town.

Bourne Town stay in 3rd place after a 3-1 home win against Melton Town, whilst Deeping Rangers beat Hucknall Town 3-2 in the United Counties Premier Division North.

Blackstones in Division 1 had a comfortable 5-1 win at Clifton All Whites. A goal each for Josh Barrett, Harry Peasgood, Logan Robinson, Nathan Rudman and Matthew Walker.

Magna 73 completed the double over Cottesmore in their 4-2 home win in the Everards Brewery Premier Division. At one point, Cottesmore had the chance to make it 3-3 but it was not to be. James Lewis and Ewan Simmons with the goals.

Women’s football:

Oakham United made it seven wins in a row in all competitions after an emphatic 9-0 league win at home to Nuneaton Borough. Eight of the goals coming in the first half. Gemma Davies opened the scoring after just two minutes and ended the scoring with her second from the penalty spot in the second half. Zina Cheikh got her 4th hat-trick of the season with Molly Cunningham also scoring a hat-trick in just ten minutes with the other goal an own goal.

Disappointing afternoon for Ketton Sports as they lost 7-0 at Newmarket Town.

Stamford AFC game at leaders Sheffield FC was a late postponement due to bad weather.

Youth Football:

Kirby Muxloe Kings 2 - 2 Oakham United in the Leicestershire Youth League Under 17s Division 2.

Leicester & District Sunday Juniors League Under 15 Cottesmore 14-0 Oadby Owls Tawnys.

Peterborough & District Leagues:

Under 18 Division 1 - Whittlesey Athletic 1 - 3 Stamford Young Daniels, and Division 2 - Hampton United Blues 0-4 Ketton Sports

Under 15 Division 3 – Holbeach United Yellow 2–1 Ketton Sports

Rugby:

Northampton Saints went down to their first defeat at home in Premiership in over a year losing to Gloucester 25-17.

League leaders in Counties 1, Stamford made it eight wins on the trot as they ran in three tries in their 19-7 home win over Spalding. Bourne lost 33-14 away at 4th placed Towcestrians.

What a thriller in Counties 2 with Oakham through Lewis Crellin clinching the win with the last kick of the game with a conversion, 34-33 over Huntingdon and District. Lewis was MOM after a try, penalty and three conversions. The other tries coming from Beech with two and one each for Bird and Weatherall.

Stamford College Old Boys had a home walkover over bottom club South Leicester in Counties 3.

Women’s rugby:

Stamford Women’s cup run has sadly come to an end in the last sixteen of the Papa John’s Intermediate Cup after going down 38-0 at Cannock Lionesses.

Leicester Tigers suffered a surprise defeat in the Premiership losing 39-25 away to Sale.
