Football:

Peterborough United produced a superb fightback after trailing 3-1 at half-time to draw 3-3 with Rotherham United. Teenager James Dornelly had given Posh the lead with his first goal on 17 minutes. A Joe Rafferty own goal and Emmanuel Fernandez meant the points were shared.

The Daniels drop to 4th despite leading at half-time through a James Blunden brace as they lost to Bedford Town 3-2 who go top of the Southern League Premier Central. A Leon Lobjoit second-half hat-trick doing the damage with the winner coming in stoppage time.

Uppingham Town were the only winners in the Peterborough and District League Premier Division beating Holbeach United Reserves 3-1 thanks to goals from Martin Turiccki, Sam Blackwell and Josh Porter.

Oakham United suffered a fourth league defeat in a row 5-0 at home to Moulton Harrox. Deeping United lost away at FC Peterborough Reserves 5-4 whilst Wittering Premiair remain bottom after losing 3-0 away at Sawtry.

In the United Counties Premier North, Deeping Rangers suffered a 6-1 home defeat to AFC Mansfield whilst Blackstones in Division 1 returned to winning ways 4-0 away at Pinxton. Joshua Barrett, Nathan Rudman with a penalty, Edmunds Grunsteins and Matthew Walker on target.

Bourne Town in the Lincolnshire Senior Trophy 1st Round won 10-2 at Appleby Frodingham including hat-tricks for Zacorie Allen and Zak Munton.

Disappointment for Cottesmore who failed to make it three league wins in a row as they lost 3-1 at home to Friar Lane & Epworth in the Everards Brewery Premier Division. This was despite leading at half-time through a Robbie Dance goal on 26 mins. Gary Warren with two early goals after the restart laid the foundation for the win.

Stamford AFC are through to the Women’s FA Cup First Round proper after they beat Long Eaton United 4-0 at home thanks to a good team performance. The goals coming from a Emma Pollard brace, Laura Dodwell with her 5th goal in three games and Milly Ramm. The first round will take place on Sunday 3 November.

Oakham United beat Desford in emphatic style, 8-0 in the League Cup 2nd Round. Two goals apiece for Zia Cheikh taking her season total to 12 and Molly Cunningham with Emma Couzens, Leah Crawford, Stevie-May Mitchell and Bethanie Munton the other scorers.

Completing the good afternoon were Deeping Rangers with a difficult Cambridgeshire League Cup 2nd Round fixture at South Lincolnshire Swifts. Sasha Beresford and Yasmin Green had given them a 2-0 half-time lead. Despite the Swifts pulling one back, Deeping Rangers held out for the 2-1 win.

Rugby:

Looking back at yesterday’s Rugby. In the Gallagher Premiership, Leicester Tigers ran in three tries as they beat defending champions Northampton Saints 24-8 at Welford Road.

Stamford made it a hat-trick of wins as they beat next to bottom Old Laurentians 31-17 whilst Bourne lost at home to unbeaten Biggleswade 36-15 in Counties 1.

Oakham could not make it two wins in a row as they lost 30-21 at Rushden and Higham in Counties 2. The points for Oakham coming from Sam Wetherall with two tries, a Paddy Quinn try and a conversion from Nobby Style.

Stamford College Old Boys remain searching for their first league win in Counties 3 after going down 48-6 away to Bedford Queens. Carl Brierley-Lewis on target with two penalties.

In Women’s Rugby, Stamford went down to Bedford Blues 30-17 who remain unbeaten.
