Football:

A disappointing afternoon for Peterborough United as their eight-game unbeaten run in all competitions came to an end losing 3-1 away to Reading.

The Daniels shared the points at home in dramatic style with a 1-1 draw against Kettering Town who have gone top of the league. It was the visitors who had taken the lead on 15 minutes only for Jordon Cooke with a header to equalise in the last minute to secure a precious point for the Daniels.

A goal feast as league leaders Uppingham Town beat FC Peterborough Reserves 8-4 in the Premier Division of the Peterborough and District League. Josh Sennett hat-trick, Sam Blackwell brace, and one each for Ollie Lewin, Henry Moxley and Fynn Seggie as Uppingham Town extend their lead at the top to seven points.

Deeping Rangers Reserves won 2-1 against bottom club Holbeach United Reserves to extend their unbeaten run to six. The sides will meet again in the league on Monday.

Bourne Town drop to 3rd in the United Counties Premier Division North after drawing 1-1 at home to Gresley Rovers after playing most of the game with ten-men following a straight red for Alvin Magagada for an off the ball incident on 27 minutes. Gresley went ahead from the penalty spot on 87 minutes with the equaliser coming in the last minute from Aaron Eyett. Deeping Rangers meanwhile lost 2-1 at Hucknall Town.

Blackstones in Division 1 completed the league double at Sandiacre Town with a 2-0 win thanks to second half goals from Josh Barrett and Will Bestwick.

Cottesmore completed their Everards Brewery Premier Division season drawing 2-2 at home to Sileby Town and extending their unbeaten run to seven to retain their league status.

Cotts led through a goal from Charlie Richards on 20 minutes. Sileby levelled on the hour whilst Cotts had to play the last half hour with ten men after Kadeem Price was sent off. The visitors taking the lead in the closing stages, but Charlie Richards was not finished with a superb header making it 2-2 in added time.

Rugby:

Oakham could not make it back-to-back wins in their last home game this season in Counties 2 losing to a powerful Rushden and Higham side by 43 points to 19.

The visitors were 12-0 up in ten minutes thanks to a try and converted try. On 24 minutes they extended their lead with another converted try. Oakham responded within a minute through a Luke Wilkinson try which was converted by Lewis Crellin to make it 19-7. Two further tries and a conversion were scored to make 31-7 at the break.

Rushden and Higham despite having a player in the sinbin extended their lead with a further try on 46 minutes. Oakham staged a mini recovery on 49 minutes when Bryan Takala went over for a try followed six minutes later as Luke Wilkinson scored his second try, converted by Lewis Crellin to make it 36-19. Quickly followed by another try and conversion for visitors to what would be the end of the scoring for the afternoon despite Oakham trying to get a fourth try and an important bonus point.

It is all set for next weekend’s final games as next to bottom Oakham go to Brackley and bottom club Northampton Boy’s Brigade Old Boy’s just two points behind them host Rushden and Higham.

Stamford College Old Boys went down 55-7 in a friendly away at Kettering 2nds.

Women’s Football:

Deeping Rangers came back from 2-0 down to beat Cambourne Town 3-2 and go top of the Cambridgeshire Women’s League Division 2. Yas Green, Catherine Hobday and Ali Stokoe with the goals to make it win number 12 and their 100% record continues in the league.

Rugby:

Leicester Tigers missed the opportunity to close the gap on 2nd placed Bristol in the Gallagher English Premiership as they lost at Welford Road for the first time since December in all competitions to Saracens by 29 points to 22. Saracens are now just two points behind the Tigers.

Stamford whose tie at the weekend was conceded by Kesteven in the NLD Shield will face Southwell in the final on the 19 April.
