Football:

Leicester City have ended a run of seven straight league defeats with a 2-1 victory at Tottenham Hotspur. At half-time the Foxes were trailing to a Richarlison goal. Then in a dramatic opening five minutes of the second half, Jamie Vardy equalised with Bilal El Khannouss giving the Foxes the lead. The result sees the Foxes out of the relegation zone and up to 17th.

Peterborough United went down their heaviest defeat of the season, 5-1 away to Lincoln City.

The Daniels returned to winning ways beating AFC Sudbury 1-0. All the action coming in the last 20 minutes. Substitute Lee Shaw for the Daniels should have put them ahead on 70 minutes only to miss from close range. It was fellow substitute Jack Duffy who put them ahead three minutes later.

AFC Sudbury were awarded a penalty on 84 minutes but this was well saved by Tom Jackson.

In the Premier Division of the Peterborough and District League, Uppingham Town stay top despite dropping two points at home with their first goalless draw of the season against Sawtry.

Oakham United suffered a 5-1 defeat at Ramsey Town whilst Deeping United went down 6-1 at home to Deeping Rangers Reserves who completed the double over them.

Stamford Bels in Division 1 made it 19 wins in a row, 6-1 at home to Warboys Town Reserves. A Jordan Neil double and a goal each for Lewis Morley, Luke Toomey, Callum Willimont and Alfie Winters.

Top of the table Bourne Town beat Gresley Rovers 2-0 thanks to 2nd half goals from Will Bird and Tom Siddons in the United Counties Premier Division North whilst Deeping Rangers lost at home 2-1 to Lincoln United.

Blackstones in Division 1 beat Stapleford Town 2-0 away with Will Bestwick getting a goal in each half.

Cottesmore lost 2-1 at Hathern after Kadeem Price had given them the lead in the Everards Brewery Premier Division.

Women’s football:

Stamford AFC were unlucky as they lost their first league game in 2025 at home 1-0 to SJR Worksop. The only goal of the game coming late on.

In cup action, Oakham United are through to semi-finals of the Leicestershire and Rutland County Cup following their 4-0 home win over Castle Donington. The goals coming from Zina Cheikh, Gemma Davies, Hannah Matthews and substitute Victoria Smith.

Oakham United have now won nine games on the bounce in all competitions and have scored 17 goals in their last three games without conceding.

Ketton Sports are out of the Cambridgeshire Women’s League Cup after losing their quarter final 4-0 at home to Leverington Sports.

Deeping Rangers maintained their 100% record in Division 2 of the Cambridgeshire Women’s League beating Histon Development 4-0. Yasmin Green and Ali Stokoe with two each.

Youth Football results:

Oakham United 1- 6 Hinckley Borough in the Leicestershire Youth League Under 17s Division 2.

Peterborough & District Leagues:

Under 18 Division 1 Stamford AFC Young Daniels 7 – 4 Holbeach United

Under 16 Division 2 – Stamford AFC Young Daniels Yellow 2–0 Whittlesey Athletic

Under 15 Division 3 - Ketton Sports 2 – 2 Park Farm Pumas Black

Rugby:

Leicester Tigers lost by 38 points to 31 at Gloucester in the Gallagher English Premiership despite leading at the break 21-17.

Stamford beat Old Laurentians in a friendly by 33 points to 26. This was after the original Counties 1 fixture was announced in the week as an away walkover for Stamford.

Women’s rugby:

Stamford Women got off to the perfect start in their defence of the NLD RFU Women's Cup as they demolished Mansfield Women away in the 1st round by 62 points to 7 their highest score of the season in all competitions.

Stamford scored ten tries, two for Jorja Matchwick and Kayna Penrose-Toms with one each for Brogan Cranfield, Catelyn Etherington, Jess Gargan, Sarah Mitchelson, Ann-Marie Mullen and Sammy Pocock. Daisy Attley with five conversions and a conversion by Jess Gargan completed the scoring.
