Football:

On a day of postponements some football did take place and we start with the Premier Division of the Peterborough and District League where Deeping United could not make it four league wins in a row as they lost 4-3 away at Whittlesey Athletic Reserves.

The top of the table clash in Division 3 saw 2nd placed Stamford AFC Reserves go down 6-2 at home to 3rd placed Wittering, whilst in Division 4 Ketton Sports Blue beat Peterborough Lions 4-2 with Ketton Sports Black losing 5-0 at Hampton Rangers.

Deeping Rangers suffered a 3-0 defeat at Belper United in the United Counties Premier Division North. In Division 1.

Storm Darragh could not deny Blackstones an impressive 4-1 home win despite the conditions over Radford. Johan Coughlan gave Blackstones the lead on 19 minutes with the visitors equalising three minutes later. Logan Robinson restored the lead on 42 minutes. Josh Barrett made it three on 48 minutes with Nathan Rudman completing the scoring on 58 minutes.

Leicester City could not make it back-to-back home league wins but a tremendous late second half comeback saw them earn a point in a two all draw against Brighton & Hove Albion to maintain Ruud van Nistelrooy's unbeaten start.

The visitors were 1-0 up at half-time and they doubled this on 79 minutes. Captain Jamie Vardy with his 6th goal of the season brought the Foxes back into the game on 86 minutes with substitute Bobby De Cordova-Reid scoring his first of the season in the first minute of stoppage time to make it 2-2.

Youth Football:

Peterborough & District League U18 League Knockout Cup Quarter-Final Glinton & Northborough Amber 5 - 4 Stamford Young Daniels.

Rugby:

Investec Champions Cup Pool 3 saw Northampton Saints secure a comfortable home victory 38 – 8 over Castres, which included six tries.

League leaders Stamford failed to make it nine wins in a row losing 13-10 to bottom of the table Bourne who avoided four defeats in a row in Counties 1. A Harry Thornburn try and 8 points from the boot of the Bourne skipper Sam Evison sealing the win.

Deepings suffered a heavy defeat 53-5 to 4th placed Rugby Welsh in Counties 3.

Leicester Tigers went down 42-28 away to Bordeaux Bègles in their Pool 1 opener in the Investec Champions Cup. The Tigers had led 21-14 at half-time but a strong second half performance by the home side saw them win by a comfortable margin that included six tries in all. Tigers earned a valuable bonus point with their fourth try right at the end
