Peterborough United made it back-to-back league wins after beating 10-man Shrewsbury Town 3-1 to complete a league double. The visitors captain John Marquis having been sent off after just 13 seconds equalling the fastest red card from the start of a game in English professional football. The POSH scorers were Tayo Edun, Malik Mothersille and Chris Conn-Clarke with his first goal for the club.
The Daniels had to settle for a point in their 2-2 draw at home to Lowestoft Town after coming back from 2-0 down early in the 2nd half. Kai Sanchez-Tonge pulled one back for the Daniels on the hour with George Hobbins in the 93rd minute equalising.
In the Premier Division of the Peterborough and District League leaders Uppingham Town remain top but could only draw again this time 1-1 and that was an own goal at bottom of the table Holbeach United Reserves. Crowland Town ended Oakham United’s two game unbeaten away run with 4-1 home win. The Oakham United goal coming from Kyul Thurley.
Stamford Bels in Division 1 are Champions and have clinched promotion after the 1-1 draw away at Whaplode Drove Rovers. David Atkinson with the Bels goal ensuring they got the point they needed. The result ends their excellent 100% winning run.
Bourne Town’s history making FA Vase journey has sadly come to end at the quarter-final stage with AFC Whyteleafe from the Combined Counties Premier South winning 1-0. The goal coming on seven minutes. Over 400 fans travelled and remained to applaud the team at the end.
Deeping Rangers secured a crucial 1-0 win against fellow strugglers Gresley Rovers at home in the United Counties Premier Division North.
Blackstones suffered their first league defeat of the year as they could not make it seven wins in a row as they went down 2-1 at Southwell City in Division 1. Matthew Walker had given them the lead.
Cottesmore extended their unbeaten run to four with a 3-3 draw at home despite leading three times to Ellistown in the Everards Brewery Premier Division. The goals coming from Leon Kavanagh, Kadeem Price and Jordan Smith. Although they had to play with 10 men after Ferdy Baker was given a straight red on 65 minutes.
Rugby
Northampton Saints went down to a surprise defeat in the quarter-final of the Premiership Rugby Cup losing at Franklin’s Gardens to Ealing Trailfinders by 26 points to 43.
Counties 1, Champions Stamford celebrated their promotion to Regional 2 East in style 50-14 over Stockwood Park to complete the double over them. It was their seventh win on the bounce and the fourth time in the last eight league games they have posted fifty points or more.
Bourne meanwhile beat bottom side Peterborough Lions away 39-16 to seal a fourth win in a row.
Finally, to Counties 3 where Stamford College Old Boys could not deny the visitors Rugby Lions the double losing 38-13 at home after strong second-half performance from the visitors. Harry Bell and Callum Fraser like last week were the try scorers with Callum adding a penalty for the Old Boys, whilst bottom side Deepings lost 39-19 at Northampton Men’s Own.
Away from Counties action there was special friendly taking place in a great atmosphere between Oakham Veterans and Stoneygate with the corresponding fixture having taken place at Uppingham back in November. Oakham retained the Geoff Pyke cup 47-33 but more importantly the two games have raised £5000 for The National Brain Appeal as well as raising awareness of the cause.
Women’s Football
Stamford AFC produced another outstanding performance as they outplayed their opponents Anstey Nomads in their 3-0 win and making it four wins on the bounce. Emma Pollard scoring two and taking in personal tally to eight goals in three games with Laura Dodwell on target as well. The result sees them up to 2nd in the league.
Relegation game in Cambridgeshire Women’s League Division 1 saw Ketton Sports come out on top with a 3-2 win over bottom club Waterbeach Colts Women. Fran Kavanagh, Sascha Smith and Emma Ward with the goals.
In Division 2, Deeping Rangers maintained their 100% league record with win number nine, 3-1 over Soham Town Rangers who they replace at the top. The goals coming from a Yasmin Green double and Ali Stokoe.

Women’s Rugby
Stamford Women 1sts returned to winning ways with an excellent victory over 2nd placed Ipswich by 32 points to 25 which sees them up to 4th in the Women's NC 1 East. The try scorers were Jess Gargan, Anna Glendenning, Jorja Matchwick and Sammy Pocock. Daisy Attley with two conversions and two penalties and Lib Ashdown with a conversion.
Youth Rugby
It was not to be for Oakham Under 15’s who were runners up to Loughborough Under 15’s in the final of the County Plate after losing 45-7 at Coalville.
