Football

Leicester City drop to 19th after losing 2-0 at home to Arsenal thanks to two late goals. 

Peterborough United earned a useful point in a 1-1 draw at Stevenage. The hosts had taken the lead on 55 minutes with Cian Hayes with the equalizer on 67. 

The Daniels drew 1-1 away at St Ives Town. Lee Shaw gave the Daniels the lead on 21 minutes but that was cancelled out in the 3rd minute of first-half stoppage time.

Oakham United picked up a useful point on their travels at 6th placed Sawtry in a 2-2 draw in the Premier Division of the Peterborough and District League thanks to a Josaia Raikoso double.

Bourne Town went down to a surprise 1-0 home defeat to Kimberley Miners Welfare making it three league defeats in a row in the United Counties Premier Division North.

Deeping Rangers lost 2-1 away at AFC Mansfield, which sees them back in the bottom two. 

Blackstones in Division 1 made it six wins on the bounce with a convincing performance, 6-1 against Rainworth Miners Welfare. All the goals coming in the 1st half for Blackstones a Will Bestwick hat-trick, Josh Barrett brace and Nathan Rudman. 

In the Everards Brewery Premier Division, Cottesmore could not make it back-to-back wins as they drew 2-2 at home to 7th placed Hathern. Cottesmore got off to the best possible start with hat-trick man from last week Leon Kavanagh firing them ahead on just two minutes to see them go in at half-time 1-0 up. Hathern then levelled on 56 minutes. The lead was restored by Cottesmore on 71 minutes when a break from the halfway line saw Leon Kavanagh round the keeper to make it 2-1. In a similar break on 78 minutes, Leon Kavanagh thought he was impeded in the penalty area by the keeper, but nothing was given. Then just two minutes later the visitors made it 2-2.

Rugby

Leicester Tigers secured 2nd place in Pool B of the Premiership Rugby Cup with an impressive win by 68 points to 26 at Coventry. The Tigers scored ten tries with a brace each for Josh Bassett and Will Wand.

Northampton Saints who won on Friday night with the results yesterday have a home quarter-final tie in the  Premiership Rugby Cup. 

In Counties 1, league leaders Stamford produced an excellent performance in very poor conditions away at 2nd placed Leicester Vipers by 33 points to Nil to secure the double and take a giant step towards promotion to Regional 2.

Stamford scored five tries in all with four tries by the break to earn a bonus point. The try scorers were Cam Boyd,  Ben Chisholm, Ed Cox, Dave Martin and Zach Morley with four conversions from Frazer Hutton. 

At the other end of the league, Bourne beat Old Laurentians 19-7 to make it three home wins on the bounce. 

Oakham had a disappointing afternoon with the weather once again planning its part at league leaders Long Buckby in Counties 2 losing by 90 points to Nil. Despite the result it was a proud day for Crellin family with three grandsons Callum, Lewis and Oliver plus Dad Martyn playing for Oakham.

Finally in Counties 3, Stamford College Old Boys completed the double over Deepings by 10 points to 7 in a close fought game despite the muddy conditions and rain. Charlie Dunn and Callum Fraser with tries to give the Old Boys their first win of 2025.  

Women’s football  

Stamford AFC made it back-to-back league wins whilst extending their unbeaten run to three and at the same time recording their best league result of the season with a 6-2 win away at bottom of the table Nottingham Trent University. Despite trailing at half-time 2-1 they showed great resilience and teamwork as they turned the game around as they took the attack to the hosts. Emma Pollard scored her second hat-trick of the season in all competitions with the other goals coming from Eva Fowler, Zaiga Lacite and Keira Swanson. 

Oakham United’s home game against East Goscote United was postponed.

Rugby 

Despite Leicester Tigers impressive win over Coventry on Saturday that secured 2nd place in Pool B of the Premiership Rugby Cup with Sale Sharks narrowly beating Newcastle Falcons 19-17 yesterday they secured the last quarter-final place, so Tigers miss out.
