Five thousand properties were affected by a pump failure at a pumping station on the north side of Stamford, including Tinwell, Casterton and towards Tickencote.
Water problems were first reported at around 10.30pm Sunday night, and five thousand households and businesses found themselves without water today, meaning Anglian Water set up a bottled water hub at lunchtime in the car park of Morrison's on Uffington Road in Stamford. The demand brought gridlock to the town for a time, and stocks were replenished at 6pm, although by that time a good proportion of houses were getting water through their taps again. Anglian Water told us those on the higher ground would take a little longer, but both pumps are now working. The hub stayed open till 9pm, and will reopen at 7am on Tuesday morning as a precaution. People on the Priority Services Register or who still have problems with their supply, can call 03457 145145. Anyone who believes they or someone they know should receive priority treatment in such situations is being urged to visit the Anglian Water website to check eligibility.
