Walking encouraged to firework display

Source: Stamford Kiwanis Facebook page

You're being encouraged to walk to the Stamford Kiwanis Bonfire and Fireworks at Stamford Welland Academy if possible tonight.

Limited car parking is available at the secondary school and also at nearby Blue Coats on Green Lane. Priority will be given to pedestrians leaving after the event. Thanks to ongoing sponsorship from Heidelberg Materials in Ketton, gate money goes to help people and organisations in the Stamford area. President,Steve Marsh, says although the Kiwanis are a familiar name locally, not many people know why  the organisation is in Stamford.

‘A lot of people know of us but really don't know what we are because they would go ‘Kiwanis what do they do?’. It is basically like Rotary like Round Table, but an American based organisation that came into being in the 1970s. Because the Stamfords in America and Canada thought our hometown in the UK hasn't got a Kiwanis let's go over and make one. That's how it started. It was three people from three different Stamfords: Stamford, Connecticut, and there’s one in Canada and two in the States, and they came over the delegation on a week’s tour and try to find people if they could be interested in starting the Kiwanis group and we were the first one the UK’.
