Traffic preparations under way for Defender Burghley Horse Trials

Source: 2024 Burghley Horse Trials Facebook page

Burghley say they're hoping to be good neighbours

as traffic increases in the run up to the Defender Burghley Horse Trials with traders, riders and soon the public amounting to around 200,000 people throughout the week attending. Traffic plans over the past few years have meant less delays as thousands of vehicles are rooted in different directions. Burghley CEO David Pennell says they use every avenue at their disposal.

‘We are lucky, you know, we have a great park. We have 8 different entrances. We've got the A1 right next to us. You know, we can move traffic around. We spent a long time planning. A lot of thought goes into it. We do a lot of liaison with villages and locals and Stamford and everyone. Then the teams check nearly 600 different road signs in the event leading up to it and every morning on it, because you know, people are out. They change directional arrows, they change signs. Great fun for them but you know we were checking to make sure they are sorted and ready to get people in and out efficiently’.
