A new venue for the Stamford Visitors’ Centre opens today at the Stamford Corn Exchange. With the demise of the tourist information centre at the Arts Centre, this volunteer run service is now the only resource for visitors to Stamford.
Stamford is ready to welcome tourists to a new venue from today for enquiries. The volunteer run Stamford Visitors’ Centre began at St John’s Church in response to shrinking facilities at the Arts Centre. It’s now become the only tourist information in town, and it has moved to Stamford Corn Exchange from today. Founder Jill Collinge says it was vital that the service continued:
“Well I think it is [vital]”, says Jill, “because Stamford needs tourists and the shops will benefit. I do find that people, once they have received a warm welcome, are very happy and they have a good impression of the town. They say that they will come back and bring their friends – that is exactly what our aim is, to bring more people into Stamford. The Stamford benefits, everybody benefits.”
