Parents in Rutland and Stamford are being invited to two webinars which begin tonight talking about smartphone use and internet safety for children.
The Conversation Stamford is campaigning to get smartphones out of primary schools and social media use only from age 13. They have the backing of schools, a number of parents who've signed their pledge, the MP and local councillors. Sarah Jane Sauntsun from The Conversation Stamford explains what their online meetings will cover.
"Chatting to parents and carers about the research around children's mental health and smartphones as well as some really practical strategies that you can implement at home. All the schools are on board, we've had probably nearly 200 parents or households sign up to the pledge which is to not give their child a smartphone in primary school, to keep the child off social media until at least 13 and to have some parental controls in place until 16. So yeah, it's really kind of starting to take off."
The online meetings can be accessed from The Conversation Stamford and they're tonight at half past seven and also a week tomorrow at the same time.
