Rutland Director of Public Health reassures us vaccinations are safe.

Rutland’s Director of Public Health is reassuring people here that it is still safe to receive the Astra Zeneca vaccine. Mike Sandys is urging people to still go to their appointments when called. It comes after the UK’s medicine regulator ruled that under 30s should be offered an alternative vaccine amid a risk of blood clots. Mike, however, says the risks are really low.

There’s been a lot in the news over the past few days about the Astra Zeneca vaccine and the risk of getting rare blood clots when you take it.  So we decided to speak to Rutland’s Director of Public Health about that and the next stage in the relaxation of government restrictions. Mike Sandys says the statistics here in Rutland and Stamford show just how good the vaccines are at stopping the number of cases.  He had the Astra Zeneca jab two weeks ago and told Rutland and Stamford Sound that it’s important people realise how rare the side effects actually are. He also reiterated how the benefits of the vaccination vastly outweigh the impact of what is a small number of adverse events.
