There's a chance to sample some pumpkin soup today at the Rutland Community Fridges.
Root and Branch Out, who operate the project, are working with Hubbub to encourage people to eat as much of the squash as possible rather than throw it away after carving. Claire Crowley from the project is encouraging people to think more about their pumpkin this Halloween.
‘There's the national campaign called Eat Your Pumpkin, which is kind of set up by Hubbub, which is a charity, national charity, and every year they look for organisations to try and promote saving pumpkin from going into landfill, because often people use them to carve with and then just throw away the flesh of the pumpkin that can be very well used in soup. So we have decided to make soup to serve to all our customers this weekend if they would like it at our community fridges and so yeah it's free, come along and try it’.
