Oakham All Saints Church is putting plans in place to close for the first three months of next year so that new lighting can be installed.
The nearly halfway through raising the total of £100,000 needed to replace the lights, some of which date back to the 1950s. Michael Latham from the PCC at All Saints, who's leading the project, says it's long overdue.
‘On a dark winter's morning in All Saints, it's really dismal because the lighting levels are so low and people struggle to be able to read the service sheets. There's one person who has been known to come with a head torch on so that she can read the service sheets during the service. We've seen other buildings where they've had new lighting and it's just astounding the difference it can make to the whole ambience of the building when it is well lit’.
