The noise of fast jets was heard over many parts of Rutland and Stamford this morning. Just after 9, F15s from Lakenheath opened up over RAF Wittering’s airspace as part of air combat training manoeuvres. Several listeners told Rutland and Stamford Sound it was the loudest they’d heard in years and was heard as far away as Edith Weston and Elton. RAF Wittering told us the aircraft tend to use more power in this type of training, hence the noise and it was conducted above the base's controlled airspace.
