Rutland’s MP says claims in two national newspapers over the weekend that St George’s Barracks at is being considered by the Home Office to house asylum seekers simply aren’t true. The papers said the Army base at North Luffenham has been included on a list of possible locations of crown property estates where up to 2.500 young families with children could be housed, as the government looks to save money on hotel bills. Alicia Kearns says she’s been told by the Home Office and Ministry of Defence that the article in the Times and Daily Mail is fake news.
