The New Year’s honours has seen recognition for several people from and connected to the Rutland and Stamford area.

Rutland Stan Braithwaite has been made an MBE for services to RAF personnel and their families. Stan spent 38 years in the Royal Air Force as an electronics engineer and most recently was an accommodation specialist for the RAF Families Federation.

’It's the joy of having a satisfied one of the families with an issue that they've been obviously been struggling with for a period of time. When I'm on holiday I do a bit of windsurfing, dinghy sailing. When I'm at home in the UK I tend to be a rescue boat coxswain, which is quite interesting’.

Richard Astle from Helpston, has made a BEM for services to charity and the environment he chose the Langdyke Countryside Trust and the John Clare Countryside Partnership. Former chief constable of Lincolnshire Police Chris Howard has been awarded the King's Police Medal for services to policing. Old Uppinghamian Stephen Fry has been knighted for services to mental health awareness, the environment and to charity.
