All Saints Church in Oakham is moving its services from today to Oakham School Chapel
as the church has been cleared ready for scaffolding to be put up inside the building for new lighting to be installed. The installation is expected to take two months. Michael Latham from All Saints says it's necessary to close the main part of the church to do it.
‘It's a major task because the new lights are going to be at high level. The idea is that you won't sort of walk into the church and be immediately aware of light fittings everywhere. The light fittings will be way above eyeline so that you'll just get the effect of the lights and it's going to be controllable, so that there will be different lighting levels in all the different parts of the building and for all the different uses of the church’.
