South Kesteven District Council hopes four new one bedroom apartments on Elizabeth Road in Stamford will go some way to helping meet demand for affordable homes in the town.
Two have already been allocated to local people and the remaining two will be given to people on the housing register. Council says this project that was unused garages along with five bungalows on Trinity Road is part of an initiative where the council is investing in new properties along with renovating existing ones. There are 389 people on the housing register who need a single bedroom and want to live in the Stamford area. These latest properties were built with solar panels and electric car charging points. Cabinet member for housing councillor Virginia Moran was at the handover.
‘Absolutely delighted with it. They are super flats, they are really roomy, they've been beautifully built, they are as green as we can possibly get them. They've got the best sort of performing boilers to heat them. They've got solar panels, there’s EV charging stations at each of the parking spaces. We've put charging points at the back of the property. There is like a narrow strip at the back enough room to sit out or you know, put a few pots, something like that. But there's room to get a mobility scooter there because the bottom two flats are fully adapted so they've got wider doorways. They've got lovely wet rooms, really good sized wet rooms. So if someone's in a wheelchair, which one of our residents is, everything there for him to be able to get under the shower properly, what have you. Yeah. It's just really, really nicely done. I'm really pleased with them.’
