New Community Hub opens in Stamford

As Rutland and Stamford emerge a little further from lockdown today, a new community hub - The Place, Stamford - has opened its doors for the first time.

The brainchild of friends and co-founders Lisa Johnson and Katie Wilkins, The Place, Stamford has teamed up with over 20 local artists, craftsfolk and retailers to offer a unique community based centre where people can pop in and browse the shop, chat, have a coffee or take part in one of the various activity groups available. Children are able to play in the drop-in crafts section, making The Place an ideal ‘place’ to catch up with friends or simply relax.

The Place has a nice, welcoming, airy feel to it and there is plenty on offer to keep both adults and children happy. The Nearly New shop, as its name suggests, offers barely used items, like childrens’ clothes, for sale while the craft shop has a plethora of innovative and interesting items to purchase. The coffee and cake bar looks very inviting and upstairs there are several rooms for activity groups like Baby Massage, Yoga, even a private room and an office for hire for those tired of their work-from-home view! All appropriate Covid precautions are in place and, for now, the groups are limited to 15 people at a time. Bookings can be made online and are proving very popular so far.

“We wanted to create the sort of place we wished we’d had when our children were little” Lisa and Katie told Rutland and Stamford Sound. Their aim is to provide a friendly and accessible haven in town for the local community as well as a platform for local businesses and crafts.

The Place, Stamford, is on St Mary’s Street and is open now. Their website has more details and can be found here:
