Rutland County Council is asking for government help to cover the cost of providing statutory food waste collections during the middle of its current refuse contract.
Council leader Gale Waller is writing to DEFRA to highlight their significant shortfall in funding. It's estimated the new service would cost around £190,000 to introduce. Rutland needs to provide the service by 2026. South Kesteven already offer food waste collection to some households in the district, including Stamford, following a trial. A report will be presented to Rutland County Council's cabinet outlining the proposals next Tuesday.
