Former Stamford School pupil Josh Hull has been called up to the England Test squad to replace the injured Mark Wood for the remaining two Tests at Lord's, starting on Thursday, and at the Kia Oval on Friday, 6 September.
Josh who is a left arm fast bowler joined Leicestershire's senior ranks as an 18-year-old in 2022, making his 2nd X1 debut in that year. His first-class debut coming in September 23 against Yorkshire where he took four wickets in the match.
He impressed earlier this month on his England Lions debut, taking five wickets across two innings in the seven-wicket defeat of Sri Lanka in their only warm-up game.
In the Leicestershire & Rutland League not a good day for our sides where play was possible:
Oakham Town 1sts went down by 3 wickets with only five balls remaining at Cropston 1sts in the Premier Division after a revised target was set of 158.
In Division 1, Uppingham Town 1sts suffered a home defeat by 12 runs despite an undefeated 77 from Jamie Dumford. This was after Kibworth 2nds had made 170-6.
Division 6 East Market Overton 1sts lost by 113 runs after being dismissed for 83 away at LCS Cricket Academy 2nds.
In the Cambridgeshire & Huntingdonshire League Division 2 there was better news. Stamford Town 1sts beat 2nd placed Upwood 1sts by 5 wickets. Upwood were all out for 92. Jacob Hewitt with a five-wicket haul and Joe Harrington with four.
In the Rutland League:
Oakham 1sts secured the Division 2 title away at Ufford Park 1sts by 8 wickets after dismissing the home side for 153. Will Begy then hit a superb 100 not out.
Stamford Town 1sts secured a vital win in the local derby against Uffington 1sts. Chasing 227 for victory, the visitors were dismissed for 157.
In Division 4 East, Market Overton 1sts lost by only 17 runs despite an unbeaten 66 from opener Ed Milner away at bottom of the table Peterborough Town 2nds. This was after the home side had made 191-6.
