King Conker cleared of cheating

Source: The World Conker Championships Facebook page

King Conker has been cleared of any foul play at the World Conker Championships near Oundle.

Suspicions were aroused when he produced a steel conker to show the crowd, but video, photos and evidence from two judges and the chief umpire who were watching show it would have been near impossible for him to swap conkers and his two tournament conkers shows signs of being played with. The championships congratulate King Conker David Jakins for his victory after 47 years of play, runner up Alastair Johnson-Ferguson and their overall winner was Kelci Banschbach from the United States. St. John Burkett from the World Conker Championships says it was a very successful international competition.

‘Yes. So we had an American winner overall, Kelci. And then we had Dutch winners at the team event and then amongst the juniors we had a German and a Latvian winner, so very international. We had at least 10 international competitors, if not countries, but more than that, as usual, you know, people from all around the world. We had maximum number of players, so we were sold out on the number of players, 256 adults. We were sold out on people coming in and it got to the stage of one out one in. About 110 juniors and the sun shone, a little bit cool but sun shone and people had a lovely day again’.
