Organisers of yesterday's Remembrance events are thanking the thousands who turned out to pay their respects to the fallen across our area.
Stamford’s parade was in doubt for a time after a Land Rover and Range Rover parked on Broad Street sparked concerns over security and safety. Both vehicles remained in the way of the parade throughout. Matt Wade is from the Stamford branch of the Royal British Legion.
‘We changed the parade a couple of years ago, we've introduced petal drop in this year and maybe there might be something slightly different next year, who knows. But we just want to make it a worthwhile event for everybody. And I must say, on behalf of the local branch, thanks the thousands of people that came down to support us, that they're not just us as the British Legion, but all of the armed forces present and past. They obviously do what they do for the country and pay that ultimate sacrifice. I mean, there was certainly a lot more people here than I would say I've seen for quite a while’.
