Global Birdfair begins at Lyndon Top

Over 12,000 visitors from over 50 countries are expected at Rutland Water from today as the Global Birdfair begins three days at its new home of Lyndon Top.

Lyndon Road, Manton is expected to face closures and traffic lights to get wildlife fans into the event. It looks like most of the heavy delays are subsiding already this morning though. Organiser and founder Tim Appleton says he doesn't expect any more disruption than any other location that's been used over the years for the Birdfair.

‘We've worked with the council, we’ve worked with the AA. in fact the AA will have operatives there for the whole weekend. We will be putting in two way traffic lights as and when they are needed only. I think what people would appreciate is the timing. People think oh it will be people coming in all day long. One of the things about birdwatchers and wildlife people, you know the bulk of them come in from about 7:00am until probably 10.30am and then it's just normal traffic. We've got flow systems with all sorts of things worked out and we just hope people will be patient and come and enjoy it’
