Fairtrade Fortnight 2022

Fairtrade Fortnight 2022 runs from 21 February to 6 March, with a focus on the impact which climate change is having on Fairtrade farmers and workers around the world. Events taking place across Rutland and Stamford include a Big Brew in Oakham on Saturday 26 February and Dine with a Difference evening in Stamford on Thursday 3 March.

During Fairtrade Fortnight each year, thousands of individuals, companies and groups come together across the UK to share stories about the people who grow our food, mine our gold and grow the cotton in our clothes, people who are often exploited and underpaid. The focus for this year's Fairtrade Fortnight is climate change. Fairtrade aims to provide producers in the developing world with a living income, which helps them to combat the impacts of climate change. The Fairtrade movement also provides practical support to producers in areas such as training in sustainable farming methods.

The Rutland Fairtrade Forum is hosting a Big Brew at the Methodist Church on Northgate in Oakham on Saturday 26 February, from 10:00am to 11:30am. Visitors to the Big Brew will be able to enjoy delicious Fairtrade refreshments while hearing about how one of the leading Fairtrade charities, Traidcraft Exchange, is helping communities to regenerate their land with climate-resilient crops and renewable technologies.

The Stamford Fairtrade Town Group is celebrating Fairtrade Fortnight with a Dine with a Difference event in conjunction with catering students at Stamford College, from 6pm on Thursday 3 March. There will be a four course gourmet dining experience, showcasing Fairtrade and local produce, as well as a guest speaker. Tickets cost £25 and can be bought online at Dine with a Difference 2022 Tickets, Thu 3 Mar 2022 at 18:00 | Eventbrite or from Blonde Beet in St Paul's Street in Stamford.
