This year's Eyebrook Walk is on course to be the most successful ever. Hundreds walked the perimeter track of the reservoir yesterday, made famous for helping to train the Dambusters in the 1940s.
Money raised will be split between LOROS and Rotary charities. It was the 14th time organisers from the Rotary Club of Uppingham have staged the event and early indications show it was the busiest ever in terms of walkers taking part. Hugh Holden and Colin Gordon, who organises from Uppingham Rotary, say money raised will help a number of their projects.
‘Last year and again this year we have purchased equipment for Rutland Sailability at Rutland Water, that's personnel hoist to get the disabled people in and out of boats. We just finished a project in Africa and we're about to start another one as a contributor. Food bank, we call it Young Rider with that's the Grocery Leadership Youth Awards and that's always well attended. Last year we sent three and hopefully it'll certainly be two or three. It's a mini Duke of Edinburgh's over a fairly harsh weekend in the Peak District in February. Yes, which tends to open the eyes of the young. The other thing that we support quite actively, with both Rotarians and money when necessary, is the bereavement help point. Which meets in the Falcon every week, which seems to be being well used and a valuable addition to the town.’
