Exhibition of wedding dresses at Uppingham Parish Church

The subject of weddings in churches is being explored at Uppingham Parish Church this weekend with an exhibition of dresses from the 1920s onwards.

It's open this afternoon between 12:30pm and 5:00pm and it's raising funds for the church. Canon Rachel Watts says they want to show what can be achieved in their setting.

Also, as well as show all these fantastic dresses and tell people stories 'cause all of them have a story with them which is really lovely. But we also wanted to show people what you can do. You know, weddings in churches, people tend to think you have to have the big wedding in church, you know, big budget wedding in church, but actually you don't. I've got a wedding coming up with only a few people and then we'll have another one with, you know, 100 people. People can do what they like, but it's the really important thing to come to this place and to us for God's blessing, as well as all the other things with marriage. It is those moments of exchanging the vows and asking for God's blessing that's an important thing'.
