With over 50 stalls, and possibly as many rafts across 6 races, it's Deepings Raft Race day today.
The races began at Deeping St James and end at Market Deeping. It's also raising funds for three local good causes this year, Deepings Leisure Centre, the library and also Little Miracles in Peterborough. Startline commentator Luke Day says it's such an important event for the area.
‘it brings so many people out, not only from all the Deepings, but all the surrounding areas as well. So you know, it's something that we all look forward to in the summer and there's a lot of legwork that goes into it, a lot of preparation by lots of different people. Then there's all the support from the local community, the businesses, the parish council. That you know, you name it, it all goes into this one day. As a former competitor myself, we've been in it for 4-5 years. It's the fun of building your raft and you know, the whole sort of sense of the social dimension of it shall we say, you know, that builds up to the day and then the day itself is just tremendous fun and of course we're working towards some good causes as well’.
