Rutland County Council have refused planning permission for a housing development just outside the village of Cottesmore. 93 homes were originally planned, however, despite a report recommending the council give a green light for the project, the decision to refuse was made yesterday at the council’s planning hearing.

An application to build 93 new homes on land in Cottesmore, outside the planned limits of development in the village, has been refused by Rutland County Councillors despite officers recommending it for approval.

The development on Mill Lane by William Davis Homes was planned to be built opposite the local primary school with a third of the development allocated for affordable housing. Concerns by villagers included an increase in traffic by the school, however, during a consultation held last year many residents were in favour of the scheme which included a green open space adjacent to the new housing.

It’s understood that a smaller development may be passed if submitted in the future.
