While Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue Service is a vital element of the county’s emergency response services, only a fraction of its firefighters are women. This weekend, an all-female firefighter crew from stations around the area visited Stamford and Bourne in an effort to help inspire other women to get involved.
Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue Service came to Stamford and Bourne at the weekend to highlight women in the service. Currently only 8% of firefighters in the county are female.
Laurel Ray is based at Grantham and says that by coming together from different stations they’re hoping to inspire more women to at get involved. Laurel, along with her colleagues from Market Deeping, Billingborough and Corby Glen spoke to Rutland and Stamford Sound, explaining why they are a part of it all.
‘I’m just always looking to challenge myself,’ says Laurel, ‘striving for that sense of reward in helping others.’ Laurel’s colleagues also spoke about the great sense of pride and community that drives them in their job.
