Local advent calendar collections

Source: Rutland & Stamford Sound Facebook page

There's still a chance to donate an advent calendar to help people of all ages across Stamford, Rutland and beyond.

The Here to Help Others appeal closes this Sunday and drop off points, for mainly chocolate calendars, include the Nelsons butchers shops in Oakham, Uppingham and Stamford, and Malcolm Sargent Primary School and the Danish Invader, both on Empingham Road in the town. It's hoped hundreds will be collected and then distributed to food banks, care homes and individuals before the 1st of December. Marie Pears from the Facebook page Here to Help Others says she's got a number of volunteers to help.

‘They will then be collected by our little elves and then we shall distribute them across to primarily the food banks and children in care. And then we are now asking for nominations for people you'd like to nominate in the community. Someone that's maybe lost their partner and is on their own, someone elderly on their own without family, someone just having a hard time or struggling with health or you know there's a lot of families at the moment struggling to make ends meet. So we just want to hear from the community who the community in turn wants to support’.
