Organisers of the D Day commemoration events in our villages and towns are thanking locals who came along to be part of the occasion.
In Uppingham, the second Royal Anglians marched. They'd been given freedom of the town in 2016, and it was their first opportunity to mark that, as well as 80 years since the D Day landings.
Major General Olly Brown says it was a special occasion for them, and he remembers the freedom being granted as well.
"It's made all the more special because it's the coincidence with D Day 80 of course, but for me personally and for the battalion we were given the freedom of Uppingham in 2016. I was on parade that day as the commanding officer and so to come back today to see the soldiers on parade again in the marketplace exercising that freedom is really special to all of the soldiers, to the current commanding officer and to old chaps like me who've come back to see it for the day, so really special indeed to connect with the community."
