D’Ukes @ Christmas Free Concert in Oakham Castle

On Saturday 21 December at 1.30pm the D’ukes of Rutland Ukulele band will be performing in the Great Hall of Oakham Castle. Entry to the performance is free and the audience will be encouraged to make a donation to the Fiends of Oakham Castle.

The performance will comprise a mix of some of their favourite songs along with some great festive favourites. The band made up of over 20 ukulele players will be supported by bass, bongos, banjo and massed kazoos. They will cover songs made popular by Bing Crosby and David Bowie, Beach Boys and Brenda Lee. The performance aims to make the audience smile and maybe even encourage them to sing along. The D’ukes last performance in the Castle had some of the audience dancing in the aisles.

The D’ukes of Rutland is a club open to everyone. They meet every Monday evening in the Ovation Wine Bar in Gaol Street. Cocktails and a ukulele sing along is great way to start the week. And since accepting the invitation from Bianca to play at Ovation and being filmed by her on that first night, Bianca’s post on Instagram has gone viral. Over 4 million people have viewed the film clip of the D’ukes singing a cover of an Old Crow Medicine Show song Wagon Wheel.

The D’ukes most recent performance was a busk on Oakham High Street when they raised over £200 for Children in Need. They have also supported Rutland Food Bank by donating their performance fees to the charity.

Seating is limited at the Castle and this is always a popular event so best to get there early to book your seat.
