Volunteer Treasurer

Rutland and Stamford Sound is a not-for-profit community radio station, serving Rutland, Stamford and the surrounding villages. Our aim is to improve wellbeing by making people feel more connected with their local area.  Since launching in March 2021, we have built a loyal following of listeners who enjoy the music and value Rutland and Stamford Sound as a wonderful source of local news and information.

Our existing Treasurer is stepping down, having performed the role since Rutland and Stamford was established as a Community Interest Company at the end of 2020. We are now seeking a volunteer with accounting experience to take on the key finance activities. The responsibilities of the role are as follows:

1. Financial Accounting:

  • Owning and maintaining accounting records, using Quickbooks
  • Cash Book and bank reconciliation
  • Controlling purchase orders and invoice payments
  • Producing inputs for the quarterly VAT Return

2.  Financial Management:

  • Producing an annual budget and quarterly managements accounts/forecasts for the Board, together with updates on key financial matters
  • Monitoring cash flow
  • Financial Decision Support
  • Assisting Station Manager, Rob Persani, with all financial matters
  • Providing financial advice to support business development projects and fundraising initiatives
  • Helping to improve decision-making by challenging from a financial point of view.

We use the services of a firm of accountants to produce the statutory accounts and to operate the payroll. Accounting records are maintained using Quickbooks accounting software. Management accounts and budgets are produced using Excel. The new Treasurer will be taking over a well-maintained set of accounting records, with established processes for performing key tasks, and the outgoing Treasurer is available to provide training and handover, including an introduction to Quickbooks, if required.

The estimated time commitment is three hours per week on average. This can be spread over the course of the month. Other volunteers are available to provide back up, to ensure that key finance tasks are completed during holidays, etc. In addition to the core finance responsibilities, there is also the opportunity for the Treasurer to be involved in working with the Board and the Station Manager in setting the strategic agenda for the station, and potentially to join the Board in the longer term.

This is an exciting opportunity to play an important role in helping to grow and develop a much-loved community asset.

If you wish to be considered for the role of Treasurer, please complete the form below by Monday 17 February. If you have any questions about the role, please email us at admin@rutlandandstamfordsound.co.uk.
